Grammy-Nominated Rapper, Big Sean Reveals He Is Of Nigerian Descent

Big Sean came to Nigeria in 2012 with Idris Elba, Pusha T and Tinie Tempah to perform at the famous Koko Concert. While he was here, there was no word about him being of Nigerian descent, and it’s a bit telling that this is the first time we’ve heard about it.

Big Sean came to Nigeria in 2012 with Idris Elba, Pusha T and Tinie Tempah to perform at the famous Koko Concert. While he was here, there was no word about him being of Nigerian descent, and it’s a bit telling that this is the first time we’ve heard about it.

Prior to this, black people in the diaspora were often made to be ashamed of their ancestry. Thankfully, there has been a paradigm shift recently, as both British-Nigerian and Nigerian-American celebrities have been wearing their national pride on their sleeves.

We’re here for Nigerians claiming their roots, and the culture shift that comes with it. Hopefully, through this, more of our local talents can occupy a global stage, and the world can enjoy and appreciate their art the same way we do.
